Charles Butler

Charles C. Butler is the founder of American Faucet and Coatings Corp. and Rancho Santa Fe Motor Club. He began his extensive career as a business owner and entrepreneur in 1969 when left San Jose State University to open his first enterprise, Aegean Marble Inc., which led him to become a marble contractor, remodeling contractor throughout the San Diego, CA region, and was the original Dupont Corian fabricator in the United States.

Seeing the need for improved quality and efficiency in the production and manufacturing of his SIGMA line, Charles opened American Faucet and Coatings Corp. in 1992 to achieve the rigorous standards of quality that he envisioned. American Faucet expanded quickly, adding plating capabilities in 1993 and establishing a 60,000-square-foot modern manufacturing factory in Vista, CA by decade’s end.

The 2000s saw additional growth as Charles invested millions of dollars into a Physical Vapor Deposition machine and department capable of producing the highest-quality coating results yet. In addition, American Faucet opened a satellite factory and office in Ningbo, China as part of a joint cooperative with a Taiwanese partner, while also growing the American factory by an additional 45,000 square feet. In 2012, Charles established AMP, which brings the same levels of expert skill and detail that goes into each SIGMA product to manufacturers of other goods and parts.

Dedicated to the community around him, Charles was the Chairman of the Board of the Copley Family YMCA in San Diego for three years, and has also served on the San Diego YMCA’s Board of Governors. He was Treasurer of the Associate Building Contractors and sat on their board for five years, where he was also honored with the Outstanding ABCer of the Year award. He was also President of Tipsters of San Diego, a businessman’s association.

Charles is also a major supporter of KPBS children’s programming, having co-chaired fundraising events that raised over $1 million for the station. He sat on the Board of Directors for Rolling Readers of San Diego, a children’s literacy program, and has hosted private fundraisers for Pro Kids Golf Academy and Voices for Children of San Diego.
He is currently serving as a member of the Board of Directors for the Equinox Center, a nonprofit society dedicated to ensuring a healthy environment, vibrant communities and strong economy in the San Diego region.
